Welcoming Mr. Christopher Y. Chan as a Mentor of i2P Ventures

January 11, 2017

We are pleased to welcome Mr. Christopher Y. Chan into our i2P Ventures family, and thankful that he is willing to offer his mentorship to our incubatees and to guide them through their startup journey. With his wealth of experience in the law industry and the startup sphere, we believe our fellow entrepreneurs will benefit substantially from his guidance.

Christopher Y. Chan serves as General Counsel and government relations head of RedMart, Singapore’s largest and fastest growing online e-commerce grocery and logistics player.  Chris recently led the sale of this startup company to the Lazada group (Alibaba).  Prior to RedMart, he served as general counsel and angel investor in successful Silicon Valley startup exit, DoxIQ.  His legal subject matter coverage includes regulatory reform, labor, licensing, litigation, compliance, intellectual property, commercial, risk management, real estate, m&a, and privacy law. Industry expertise in tech, transportation, logistics, media, mobile, e-commerce, consumer goods, food, alcohol, and pharmaceuticals.  Prior to startups, Chris was a senior associate at the Global IP law firm of Finnegan Henderson where he focused on complex IP litigation and transactions in Washington, D.C.  Chris also served as the first law clerk to Judge Raymond T. Chen at the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit.  In law school, Chris interned on the Sixth Circuit Court of Appeals and in-house at the Bridgestone Corporation.  Prior to his legal profession, he was a business consultant and opened his group’s first international office in India.

In Washington, DC, Chris served as the President of the Asian Pacific American Bar Association and its Educational Foundation.  There he mentored attorneys and law students in business development, public speaking, and community activism.  Because of his efforts, DC Mayor Vincent Gray appointed Chris to his Commission on Asian and Pacific Islander Affairs to advise on the interests of the APA community.  Chris frequently speaks on start-up law, intellectual property, leadership, and diversity issues.  Chris is recognized as Distinguished Recent Graduate of the Year (2015) by his law school, NAPABA’s Best Lawyers Under 40, and finisher of multiple IronMan triathlons.  He also has his own TV episodes on HGTV’s “My First Place,” and MediaCorp's "Your Personal Data, Our Responsibility," and can be found after hours at Singapore's indoor rock climbing gyms and on its running trails.  He received BS degrees from Duke University and his JD from Case Western Reserve School of Law.

Cheers,

i2P Ventures
